Uganda – Promoting the Private Sector for Sustainable Development – Search

Hello World!

WENIPS is one of the key actors in promoting financial services in West-Nile. Nearly 300,000 people have been able to improve their livelihoods through Microfinance in West-Nile as a result of WENIPS’ development intervention. The so-called ‘bottom of the pyramid’ – people who have not enough assets to become members of SACCO’s – joined into 2,300 groups of 30 members. Fondly they call their groups ‘our Granary. Together – with members of 80 SACCOS – they mobilized savings accumulated savings of approximately
UGX 7,700,000,000. The cumulated loans amount to approximately UGX 40,000,000,000. This equals a stack of 6.000 feet of 5.000 Shilling bills

Uganda Martyrs University, trough action research – and in cooperation with WENIPS – seeks ways how to remodel Microfinance in such a way that the rural people can benefit through improved services. You too could partner with WENIPS to improve on the livelihoods of the people of West Nile of whom between 60%-70% of households live below poverty line, that is, on less than US$1 a day. Surely, together we can make a difference.
