GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Legal Status: Established initially as Nebbi District Private Sector Development Promotion Centre under UNDP/GoU Country Cooperation framework (CCF I) on December 8, 1997 to promote private sector led growth and development in West Nile. Under UNDP/GoU CCF II, the district promotion centre was transformed into, and registered, on April 8, 2004 (company registration No. 63373) as a company limited by guarantee without share capital called West Nile Private Sector Development Promotion Centre Limited (WENIPS). Currently we operate under the laws of the Government of Uganda as a not-for-profit regional development organization operating in West Nile Region.
1.2 Vision: A leading enterprise development service provider promoting economic and business services in the West Nile Region
1.3 Mission: To provide capacity development services that promotes Micro and Small Enterprises for poverty alleviation taking into consideration the crosscutting issues of gender, HIV/AIDS, environment in an economically dynamic manner.
1.4 Mandate: The promotion of private sector led growth and development for the active poor, and Small and Micro Enterprises (MSE’s) including microfinance institutions.

1.6 Areas of Operation: WENIPS operates in the whole of West Nile Region: in Adjumani, Arua, Koboko, Maracha-Terego, Moyo, Nebbi and Yumbe districts. WENIPS head office is in Nebbi District with a Branch Office/Business Information Centre in Arua District.
1.7 Clients/Beneficiaries: The Company’s clients include the following:
- Micro and small enterprises (MSEs)
- Micro-finance institutions and village savings and loan associations (VS&LAs);
- Government (both local and central), donor agencies, and various development organizations;
- Individuals, groups and communities including disadvantaged members of the community like women, the participants, people living with HIV/AIDS (PWHAs) and people with disability (PWAs).
