5.0 WENIPS’s capability

 

5.1 Company Subscribers: these are organizations drawn from all the 7 districts of West Nile region. To be a subscriber, the organizations vision, mission and objectives should be similar to those of WENIPS. Members of the company meet annually in general meetings to set general company guidelines and assess progress of the company. For company’s organizational structure, please visit 

5.2 Governance of WENIPS: WENIPS is governed by a team of 7 elected board members drawn from all the districts in the region. Board members have vast experience in private sector development work and are committed to contribute to a poverty free West Nile Region. Details on Board members ate in appendix 3. The board that meets at least quarterly has a Technical and Human Resource Committee and a Finance and Audit Committee that handle specialized policies of the company.

5.3 Management of WENIPS: A team of professionals run the centre that comprises of the senior management headed by the Chief Executive Officer supported by 3 experienced technical staff in the fields of Microfinance, Business Development Services and Technical skills transfers. In addition to this the team 3 programmes Officers (VS&LAs), 50 Community Based Trainers, and five support staff. The management staff are not only highly qualified and experiences in their areas of work, but are also committed in their responsibilities. Detail of core management staff are contained here

5.4 Accredited Trainers/consultants: In order to provide quality and effective services in West Nile, WENIPS trained and developed a team of accredited trainers/consultants for the various core services of the company. These are deployed all over the region as and when they are needed. All trainers are conversant and eloquent in the local languages of West Nile in addition to the English language.

5.5 Company Facilities: WENIPS has 2 well-established office premises in Nebbi (head office) and Arua (branch office and business information centre). These are fully equipped with computer facilities with Internet connections, photocopying machines, and other office tools and equipment. The company has two motor vehicles and two motorcycles as well.

 

5.5 Strong Internal Systems and control: WENIPS has strong internal systems and controls. Separate accounts are maintained for different partners’/donors’ accounts. A computerized accounting systems based on excel spreadsheets (Cashbook complete, etc) are used. The company is in the process of introducing QuickBooks complete. The company’s management and operational guidelines (MOG) is used in the day-to-day management of the company.

 

5.6 Good will and corporate image: WENIPS has been operating in West Nile since 1997. Since then we have established good will and strong relations with other development stakeholders and the communities in the West Nile region. We have good working relationship with all 6 district local governments, at least 23 VSCIs, several MSEs, NGOs, and CBOs. Two of our members were represented on the task force for West Nile Development Conference. We have developed this good will because when we promise we deliver. WENIPS has extensive and down to earth knowledge and experience, cultures, challenges, of the different communities within the regions.

 

5.6 Existing Working Partners: The center is instrumental in linking enterprises of different sizes and ensures vertical and horizontal linkages within the private sector, civil society organizations, and government.  The centre has worked with both international and partners as a focal point in the catchment area. The organizations include; GoU/UNDP, CARE International in Uganda, DFID/FSDU, SCORE Uganda, AMFIU, MOP, SUFFICE, MSCL, CEFORD, The Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), UNDP/GoU, and UNIDO.

 

The company also has responsibility for uniting with stakeholders in the community in collaboration with other organizations. The following organizations and government programmes are key to the success of the centre and we work closely with them; National Agricultural Research Organization (Abi Zonal Farm), Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF), The Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), Association of Micro Finance Institutions of Uganda, Nebbi NGO Forum, MAYAN (districts of West Nile), Micro Finance Support Centre Limited among others.

West Nile Private Sector is a platform for the business community in the West Nile Region. WENIPS organizes business forums, roundtable discussions relevant to its partner’s needs along with being the liaison between business and government, both local and central
